This pole dancing Maleficent costume was designed together with Ebony Pole Artist . We went through a list of pros and cons of a variety of material samples, and in this case, Black PVC came out the winner.
After our meeting, I submitted an illustration to make sure I understood what was required.
The design was approved, and away I went, sourcing materials, pattern making, cutting and sewing.
We made a toil in Calico first to get the best shape for the dancers specific muscular body shape, and from the fitting, the pattern was adjusted, ready to make the final garment.
The client managed to find some wire horns, and i was able to cover them in PVC to match her costume! I also ordered two pairs for myself, they are available for hire. (The hand made icicles in this photo were for a different job.)
and here is the finished costume:
I’ve filled in the client as a cartoon, until pictures with full hair and make up are delivered 🙂
Once the costume was finished, it still took a bit of adjustment to get the collar standing as required. And the other thing was, with the clients increased practice schedule, her body changed shape a little. The good thing about this high quality PVC is it moves enough to accommodate these changes. It’s also machine washable. Amazing.
And here is the costume performing!
Unfortunately for me, the photographer took more interest in the gravity defying skills of the performer on the pole, rather than showing off the line and cut of the costume…which of course is where my personal interest lies. Not to take away from the awesome skill of Ebony Pole Artist , Serious talent!
