Theme:
Wedding of the year!

Tiffany knows how to create a memorable event and planning starts many months in advance, organising the costume is no exception. This works well as that means any problems that may arise are able to be dealt with in time, without undue stress.

Stage one, the meeting and the discussion of the theme and possible costume ideas.
Tiffany is a creative individual, and also is able to make clear decisions about what will and what wont work for her. This makes my job so much easier, as there is no guess work, just a simple goal and then steps towards that goal.

The costume was defined fairly easily. I like the client to describe what they are after clearly. If they have a clear image then they are able to answer my questions succinctly, and I am able to ascertain the borderlines of what will satisfy and what will not pass muster.
Three main ideas came up, bounced around, and then, they were all integrated into each other. we were laughing by the end of the meeting, a good indication we were onto a winner.
The ideas were: Half Bride Half Groom, jumping out of a wedding cake, and being the marzipan dolls on top of a wedding cake.
“How about, I am the dolls on top of a cake, i am half bride half groom and have a bride and a groom on either side of me, making a statement on gay marriage! Can you do it?
I was reeling… “yes…I just don’t know how too yet”
I was imagining a wooden cake on wheels, and harnesses for the dolls and braces and metal welding, and carpentry, the costs skyrocketed….
Finally, after much consideration I decided on foam, a special foam that will hold it’s shape and form after being glued together like a jigsaw puzzle.
I made a harness type construction using a fitted top, seatbelt webbing, plastic and lots of hand sewing, foam off cuts, felt, polystyrene heads, glue that wont melt polystyrene.

there were many hours of material sourcing, costume construction, including wig styling.
The tuxedos were altered from baby’s tuxedo bought on line, and the wedding dresses i made myself.

I even made a half shorts and half skirt, half and half top and necklace bowtie, to wear once the mannequins got too hot later in the party, and sourced a leather man to spray on of the patent leather shoes white.

This costume was the most challenging I have had to make to date.
There were about 6 or 7 fittings all up, making sure everything was progressing and holding up as expected.

In the end it worked! There was a lot of laughing around it, during and after it’s completion.
