This costume was commissioned by the same person who got the last Assassin’s Creed costume made by me last year. He made a you tube film and intends to do the same with this one. I’ll post it when he sends it to me, just for fun.
Man there was a lot of work involved with this one.
First he dropped in with printed out pictures of what he was after, and I took his measurements as he’s grown since the last costume.
Then we discussed materials.
Luckily I had some samples on hand, which he approved, which saved the expense and time of sourcing. Then I got started.
We had 2 more fittings after that before getting to this finished result. The last visit he put it all on again to make sure the adjustments were made correctly and we took some photographs outside my shop on Ocean St Nth just behind Bondi Rd.
I played with the photos in photoshop and created this panel.
Luckily he wasn’t in a hurry for it, so I was able to work on it in between other jobs. It took a few months to get to this finished product.
I still can’t quite believe how well it turned out, largely with thanks to a few donors. In the time i was making this, I was gifted some leather pieces just the right size for the leg bits, they were perfect size! Almost like … it was meant to be, so I gifted the leather on to use with this costume, because it was such a perfect fit.
The client didn’t have budget to buy leather, and he’s so appreciative and enthusiastic I felt compelled to support his enthusiasm. The timing of the leather was such that I imagined it was a direct gift to his hobby. Life can be funny like that I find.
There’s about 40 to 50 hours work in this including fittings, and about $212 in materials.
Because the leather was free, and I was fortuitous enough to find some discounted items buttons, left over beads and red fabric “scraps” the materials cost was more like $150.
And guess what, it’s machine washable. Yes, it really is.
The client sourced his weapons on line, even managing o find some authentic looking indian arrows from ebay for $15 including postage! they were tied with sinew, stone arrow heads and beaded and everything, amazing.
I took the container they were sent in, cut the top off at the right height and sewed a fabric pouch with fringing for it, then I glued it on. Perfect arrow holder for his costume. Found an old belt $6 from an op shop and used that as a shoulder strap.
Pretty cool huh.
He was very patient, allowing me to find time in between other jobs to get it done, and I’m very happy with the result.
I’ll post the you tube film he makes in it when I get it.
