This Rainbow Bright Costume was custom made for a 5 year old in New Zealand.
It was very involved.
I was told she fts size 6, sometime size 7, so I found a size 6 pattern and traced around it.
The pattern was then altered to get the correct shape pattern peice. The coloured panels were drawn on and then cut out, seam alloweance was added and there were my panel peices.

The legs and arms were backed with foam. The appropriate seam allowance was added for the seams between the colours, and then a little bit extra to accommodate the foam. It was more or less intuitively cut, based on experience. Using foam will make the costume smaller, so you need to alter the pattern pices slighty to accomodate that.
It was quite tricky and took a couple of days to complete! But the finished result was fun to behold, and I’m told the 5 year old Birthday Girl is so excited to be wearing it to her Rainbow Bright birthday party on the weekend.
The costume was sent by Express Post on Saturday from Sydney and it arrived in Auckland by Monday afternoon.
