This Robin Hood costume was commissioned with the words “now I don’t want one of those cheapo plastic skimpy looking costume’s you see around, I want the real deal.”
“are you sure?” I asked.
“yes” he replied.
And so after we discussed the logistics, we defined the parameters and away I went.
If we really were to go into blockbuster movie standard the budget would need to be increased significantly. As it was, the budget was enough to get a decent outfit sorted.
The materials are really good quality and sourced from 5 different stores around Sydney.
It took a bit of running around and matching samples to make sure the colours and textures worked well together.
The materials cost about $420, and it took me about 40 hours in total, maybe a little bit more including meetings, running around sourcing materials and fittings.
The shirt is made of a deliciously soft natural linen and the pant of a thicker but also soft linen that retails for about $50 a metre.
the velvet cape was lined with a matching satin. The vest and boot and arm covers are real leather. The sword was a plastic one from a toy shop.
