Just a few of the costumes I was privileged to have designed and made this year. Thank you to all who allow me to create a living with this type of fun!
2010 was a great year for Agent Costume.
We saw the opening of a new shop front in Ocean Street Bondi, and the hiring of a small collection of costumes to local customers for their birthday parties, short films, TV Commercials, performers and end of year work dos. Not only did Agent Costume supply costumes and personally designed party clothes for people, but we also helped create sets and all manner of fabric construction for touring Musicians, and for events and film sets.
There’s nothing quite like creating a costume from start to finish.
Personally I enjoy the whole process, from the initial consultation to the end design, and in the process, I have met many interesting and fun loving people.
Discussing the intention of the client may mean uncovering many possibilities. It can take years of experience to know which questions to ask in order to fully understand the clients final image. Not necessarily costume experience, but certainly customer service experience.
The trick is to ask in a way that has the client answering all the questions for themselves.
They may say they require your expertise, but what they ultimately mean is that they need you to uncover what their idea is and to get them to define it. Sometimes it takes a bit of digging around, but with the right time and space, all may be revealed, and there may be many factors involved.
And never allow yourself to be rushed. Something crucial may then be overlooked! That’s no fun for anyone!
Thank you to all who contributed to Agent Costume this year, with your costume orders, your party hires, your alterations and your well wishes!
It’s a great feeling to know your business is being talked about and referred to in positive ways.
I believe play is as important as getting to work and putting dinner on the table.
I believe the best ideas are revealed in play, when the mind is relaxed and being creative.
Coming from a place of creativity and fun is much more productive and enjoyable than reacting from a space of survival, and fear, which unfortunately seems to be a prevalent influence on human activity as we know it today.
Just take a look at your interpersonal relationships and notice when a friend, or even yourself, becomes competitive and possibly bitter when circumstances seem to change. This happens when you come from a place of survival, and the thought that there isn’t enough, rather than creatively building together on a bigger picture – which is ultimately what it means to be a part of a beautiful community.
The brain develops physically differently depending on which parts of it you use. Creating role play, and investigating role play and various character traits enable us to practice various ways of being in the world.
It’s good to have fun, and when I say fun, I still mean you can be responsible with your sense of freedom.
There is a lot of thought that goes into my development of characters, and what they wear and why.
So get out there and have fun!
It doesn’t take much to get creative, and put a few interesting pieces together for the ultimate look.
But if you need some help, or a specially made one off piece of clothing for a special event, you know where to come!
Call me, and make an appointment!
Enjoy this silly season, enjoy the family connections, enjoy your lasting and loving friendships.
Be the kind of person you enjoy having in your life, and have fun!
Lots of love,
and best wishes in the new year,
Elisa!
